Sometimes when you're home-builders equipped with a love for unique design and access to the finest architectural elements, your house has no choice to be anything less than stunning.
Don and Susan Charlet are the sweet parents of our Corbel family and the talent and brains behind Charlet Brothers Construction.
We see elements of the couple's taste and unique attention to details daily, here at The Corbel, but we were super pumped when their open-door policy allowed for a first-hand look at their personal home.
It's cold today, so I hope you have your fuzzy socks on, and a cup (or bowl) of coffee in hand. Get comfy, take notes and let's walk through this beautiful home!
So, as you drive up to the Charlet's home, you are immediately greeted by unique architectural features.
( Custom copper lanterns provided by Bevelo, a New Orleans based, family-owned business that has been hand-crafting these copper lights since 1945. )
The contrasting brick half-circle arches are a result of Don's study of old French architecture. Don was so intrigued by this French inspired design, he knew it would be a perfect element to incorporate on his home.
Other features that take our breath away are the massive beam lintels above the windows, doors and garage, and antique heart pine posts recovered from an old warehouse in Gary, IN, specifically for this build.
That was a lot, we know... but seriously, prepare yourself, every inch of this house oozes character.

Custom furniture building is an important facet of The Corbel's repertoire of services, and personally, one of our favorites. We love to see the beautiful ideas of our customers come to life! See if you can pick out all of the custom pieces in Don and Susan's home.
The console pictured above and the cabinet below were both custom pieces built around their antique shutters/doors. At our warehouse here at The Corbel we have several options of doors that would be perfect for a custom piece of your very own!
As you scroll through the pictures, be sure to take note of the reclaimed wood used in the architecture of the house. Antique beams of varying sizes and reclaimed beaded board frame out the kitchen and dining spaces, all of which can be purchased here at The Corbel.
...oh, and just wait until you see the floors!

Ready to see a little snippet of some seriously unique floors?
Ta-daaaah! Aren't they just lovely?!
Keep in mind, even though the details and components incorporated into the Charlet's home are unique, they are a great representation of what the builders can find and utilize to create a one-of-a-kind space.
A pretty little plaster-covered fireplace that is begging for a fire and some company also boasts a unique design with its step-out brick detail. Add a sweet reclaimed beam mantel and the barn-siding wall that frames it out, and you have a perfect home-based retreat. Eye-candy and a bit of cozy, all in one?
Don, Susan, can we all come over?
The interior of each room is so well done, it's hard not to stare (with mouth open)... big stately windows that invite the sunshine in, an antique Turkish marble sink customized for the guest bath, and hand-cut porcelain tile laid in a chevron pattern are really the finishing touches that help set this home apart.
Pattern, texture, things that are old, things that are new, Charlet family, we love what you do!
The found antique heart pine posts were used again on the back of the house. Large french doors and louvered vents were also incorporated to give each angle of this home that little something extra.
Well, folks, this is where it ends.
Just imagine yourselves curled up in a blanket on this screened-in porch overlooking this amazing span of Louisiana backyard. You kind of can't help but to love every bit of this house, right?
